After Hours Production
Im witnessing a growing trend in Photographers behavior that we need to address. Im going to use a recent event the past weekend called Crush Games. I was told that a Photographer, after being contacted by a CrossFit Athlete regarding pictures taken at the event, attempted to sell Prints of this Athlete. No digital files would be sent, adding “what is it going to be used for”. Mind you this Photographer was granted access to be an Official Photographer on a Volunteer basis. As a Photographer myself, having been given the opportunity to Photograph the Miami Dolphins Cheerleader Auditions, The Florida Panthers IceDancers Auditions, and beach VolleyBall by AVP, these images, I felt where for the Athletes. To give them something to remember the event. We are given this special access that regular people are not given because we are Professionals. So to these Professional Photographers who are trying to profit after given special privileges, i say to you this. If you want to sell these types of pictures, then you should be charged a fee to gain this valuable inside privilege. CrossFit is like no other sport. No professional sport would allow 98% of us Photographers to get as close to these Athletes that CrossFit allows us to.
